Bespoke Amazon competitor analysis · One ASIN · Three competitors · Five working days

Amazon Listing Competitor Analysis, UK: Your Category Dominance Map

The Category Dominance Map is a bespoke Amazon competitor and category analysis. We compare your primary ASIN against three direct competitor listings across up to twelve priority buyer keywords, then show you exactly where your search visibility, listing content and A+ Content are losing ground — and which three commercial levers will recover the most share. It is prepared and reviewed personally by Billy Kukadia, not exported from software.

I'm Billy. Most Amazon sellers know their competitors are winning. Very few can tell you precisely where — which keywords they are indexed for and you are not, which of their images answer a question yours leaves open, where their A+ Content converts and yours describes.

That is what this report answers. Not with a dashboard you then have to interpret, but with a written analysis and a prioritised ninety-day roadmap in plain English.

Foundation first. Growth follows.

What is an Amazon Category Dominance Map?

An Amazon Category Dominance Map is a bespoke competitor and category analysis that benchmarks one Amazon listing against three direct competitor listings across an agreed set of buyer keywords. It identifies keyword indexing gaps, organic and sponsored search visibility differences, share-of-voice position, and weaknesses in the product title, images, video, A+ Content, price positioning and review profile — then sets out a prioritised ninety-day plan to close them. Buy Box Savvy prepares each report manually for a one-time fee of £395 and delivers it as a written PDF within five working days.

Who it is for. Amazon UK brand owners, manufacturers, resellers, distributors, Seller Central businesses, Vendor Central suppliers who may also need Amazon Vendor Central support, and agencies managing client accounts. It suits sellers who have an established listing and want to know why a competitor is ahead — and sellers preparing to launch into a category who want the landscape mapped before they commit.

Who it is not for. If you have no live listing and no target category, there is nothing to benchmark. If you want software you can log into and query yourself, buy a tool — this is an analyst's judgement written down, which is a different product.

Why competitors outrank your Amazon listing — and how we find out

Sellers usually arrive with a symptom, not a diagnosis. These are the twelve findings this analysis most often produces:

  1. 1Competitors are indexed for buyer keywords you are missing entirely. Not vanity terms — the phrases with purchase intent.
  2. 2Advertising spend is masking weak organic visibility. Turn the ads off and the listing disappears. Your cost per sale only ever rises.
  3. 3The product title does not communicate the attributes buyers actually filter on — size, material, compatibility, quantity, use case.
  4. 4The main image does not survive the search results grid. It looks fine at full size and vanishes at thumbnail scale on a phone.
  5. 5The image gallery does not answer the questions the reviews keep asking. Every unanswered question is a lost sale or a return.
  6. 6Competitor A+ Content is more persuasive than yours — better structured, better sequenced, answering objections yours ignores.
  7. 7You have good conversion but poor visibility. The listing works; not enough people see it. This is the most recoverable position of all.
  8. 8You have visibility but weak conversion. Traffic arrives and leaves. Usually content, price perception or reviews.
  9. 9Price positioning is undermining perceived value — either too high without justification, or low enough to signal inferiority.
  10. 10A rating or review-volume gap is doing quiet damage at the comparison stage.
  11. 11The listing is not indexed for phrases you assume you rank for. This one surprises people most often.
  12. 12Competitors hold top-of-search placements on the terms that matter, organically or through sponsored placement, or both.

If three or more of these sound familiar, the Category Dominance Map will tell you which is actually costing you the most — and in what order to fix them, flagging anything that needs Amazon account health support.

How Amazon share of voice is assessed

Share of voice, as used in this report, means search visibility across an agreed set of buyer keywords on a stated marketplace at a stated observation date. We record where your ASIN and each competitor ASIN appear in Amazon search results for each keyword, across a defined number of positions, and express the result as a share of the visibility observed.

What share of voice is not

Share of voice is not audited sales market share. It is not verified category revenue. It is not a guarantee of future ranking, and it is not a prediction of future sales. It is a measurement of search presence at a point in time — a diagnostic instrument, not a forecast.

What each report states explicitly

Every Category Dominance Map records, on the page:

  • The marketplace analysed (Amazon.co.uk or Amazon.com)
  • The observation date and the observation window
  • Every keyword analysed
  • Every competitor ASIN assessed
  • The number of search positions reviewed per keyword
  • Whether sponsored placements were included in the count
  • Any data limitations encountered
  • Any assumptions made

What we separate out

Where the available data permits, we report these independently rather than merging them into one figure:

  • Organic share of voice — visibility earned, not bought
  • Sponsored share of voice — visibility purchased through advertising
  • Total search visibility — combined presence across the keyword set
  • Top-of-search visibility — presence in the positions that receive most clicks
  • Keyword indexing coverage — whether Amazon associates your ASIN with the term at all
  • Current ranking position — where you sit for each term today
  • Competitor search presence — which competitors appear, and how consistently
  • Generic vs branded visibility — category demand vs demand for your name specifically

How we describe opportunities

Anything forward-looking in this report is described as a strategic opportunity, an improvement priority, a potential growth area or a recommended action. Never as a guaranteed outcome. Amazon results depend on demand, price, reviews, stock, fulfilment, competition, account health and advertising activity — several of which sit outside anyone's control, including ours.

What is included in the Category Dominance Map

Your report is a written PDF, typically nine to twelve pages, prepared for your ASINs and your keyword set. It contains twelve sections:

  1. 1

Executive category summary — the commercial picture in one page: where you sit and what is costing you most

  2. 2

Buyer-keyword and search-intent map — your keywords classified by intent, with the terms actually driving category purchases

  3. 3

Organic and sponsored share-of-voice comparison — your visibility against three competitors, split organic vs paid, with Amazon PPC readiness notes

  4. 4

Competitor keyword-gap analysis — terms competitors are indexed for and you are not: the recoverable ground

  5. 5

Product-title and indexing assessment — title structure against Amazon's 75-character cap, with indexing observations

  6. 6

Listing structure comparison — bullets, Item Highlights, backend terms and attributes, side by side, benchmarked against Amazon listing optimisation best practice

  7. 7

Main-image and gallery benchmark — how your images perform at thumbnail scale, and what the gallery fails to answer — and where Amazon product photography would close the gap

  8. 8

Video content comparison — who has video, what it does, and whether its absence is costing you

  9. 9

A+ Content and Brand Story comparison — module-by-module assessment against all three competitors, judged by Amazon A+ Content design standards

  10. 10

Price, rating, review and trust benchmark — where you sit on the value perception axis

  11. 11

Three priority commercial opportunities — the three specific levers with the strongest recovery case

  12. 12

Prioritised ninety-day improvement roadmap — sequenced actions: what to fix first, what to hold, what to ignore

What the report looks like

Below is a sample page structure. The figures shown are illustrative and constructed for demonstration. They are not client data and they are not a projection of your results. Your report uses observations taken from your stated marketplace on your stated keyword set at a recorded date.

Amazon UK or Amazon US — one marketplace per project

Your £395 fee covers one marketplace. That is not a restriction for its own sake — it is because the two are genuinely different research projects.

Running one set of keywords across both marketplaces produces a misleading answer in both. The competitors differ, the search language differs, and the same keyword can be a strong opportunity in one market and saturated in the other.

If you need both markets analysed, tell us on the form. We will confirm scope and price for the second marketplace separately before any payment is taken. We will not quietly bill you £395 and analyse only half of what you asked for.

Why I prepare every Category Dominance Map myself

Billy Kukadia, founder of Buy Box Savvy

Billy Kukadia · Founder & Lead Amazon Strategist, Buy Box Savvy · About Billy

There is no junior analyst, no offshore team and no automated PDF template behind this report. When your order arrives, I pull the listings myself, I read the A+ Content myself, I look at the images at the size a buyer actually sees them, and I write the findings in plain English.

That is also why it takes five working days. Software can produce a keyword export in seconds. What software cannot do is look at your gallery, read your competitor's reviews, notice that three of them ask the same question your images never answer, and tell you that fixing image four will do more for you this quarter than any keyword change.

That judgement is what you are paying for. It is why I will show you exactly where your share is going — and why I will not promise you a rank position or a sales lift. Amazon outcomes depend on demand, price, reviews, stock, fulfilment, competition and account health. Anyone guaranteeing you a number is guessing, or worse.

Frequently asked questions

What it is and who it's for

It is a bespoke Amazon competitor and category analysis that benchmarks one listing against three direct competitor listings across up to twelve buyer keywords. It identifies keyword indexing gaps, organic and sponsored visibility differences, share-of-voice position, and weaknesses in title, images, video, A+ Content, pricing and reviews — then sets out a prioritised ninety-day plan. It is prepared manually by Billy Kukadia and delivered as a written PDF.

Amazon UK brand owners, manufacturers, resellers, distributors, Seller Central businesses, Vendor Central suppliers and agencies managing client accounts. It suits sellers with a live listing who want to understand why a competitor is ahead, and sellers preparing to enter a category who want the landscape mapped before committing stock or budget.

How the analysis works

Amazon share of voice is your listing's search visibility across an agreed set of buyer keywords, expressed as a proportion of the total visibility observed for that keyword set. It measures how often and how prominently your ASIN appears in Amazon search results compared with competitors. It is a measure of search presence, not of sales.

We record where your ASIN and each competitor ASIN appear in Amazon search results for every keyword in the agreed set, across a defined number of search positions, on a stated marketplace at a recorded date. Organic and sponsored placements are counted separately where the data permits. Every report states the keywords, the date, the number of positions reviewed and any limitations.

No. Share of voice measures search visibility only. It is not audited sales market share, not verified category revenue, and not a prediction of future sales. A listing can hold strong visibility and convert poorly, or hold modest visibility and convert extremely well. The report treats visibility and conversion as separate questions.

It is a structured comparison of your product listing against named competitor listings, identified by their ASIN. Rather than reviewing your listing in isolation, it examines what specific competitors do differently — their keywords, title structure, images, video, A+ Content, price and review profile — and identifies where those differences are costing you visibility or conversion.

We take your primary ASIN and three competitor ASINs and assess them side by side against the same framework: keyword indexing, organic and sponsored visibility, title structure, image and gallery quality, video presence, A+ Content and Brand Story, price positioning, and rating and review profile. Every finding is recorded with the observation date and marketplace.

It identifies buyer keywords that one or more competitors are indexed and visible for, and your listing is not. These represent recoverable ground. It also flags terms you assume you rank for but are not indexed against — the most common and most surprising finding in the whole report.

Scope and marketplaces

Three direct competitor ASINs are included in the £395 fee. You may nominate a fourth and fifth, and we will quote separately for those before any additional payment is taken. Three is the number at which patterns become clear without the analysis becoming too diffuse to act on.

Up to twelve priority buyer keywords. If you are unsure which keywords matter, supply what you have and we will identify the rest as part of the buyer-keyword and search-intent map.

Yes. Amazon.co.uk is our primary market and the marketplace we know best. The standard £395 project covers one Amazon UK ASIN, three UK competitor ASINs and up to twelve UK buyer keywords.

Yes. Amazon.com is available on the same basis and at the same fee — one primary ASIN, three competitors, up to twelve keywords. The entire analysis is conducted against Amazon.com data, in US English, with US competitors and US keyword behaviour.

Not within the single £395 fee. Each marketplace requires separate research because the competitors, keywords, prices, browse nodes and search language all differ. Tell us on the form and we will confirm scope and price for the second marketplace before any payment is taken.

Timing and process

Your completed Category Dominance Map will normally be delivered within five working days after payment and receipt of all required information. Working days are Monday to Friday, excluding UK public holidays.

It begins on the first working day after payment has cleared and all required information has been received — your primary ASIN, three competitor ASINs, your buyer keywords and any essential supporting detail. If your order is placed on a Friday afternoon, the period begins on the following Monday.

We will contact you on the same working day we identify the gap. The five-working-day period pauses until the missing information is supplied, then resumes. Common causes are an inaccessible listing, a suspended ASIN, or a competitor ASIN from a different marketplace. We will always tell you if the clock has paused.

Security, payment and terms

No. Every source used in this analysis is publicly visible on Amazon. We do not need access to your Seller Central or Vendor Central account at any point.

Never. We will not ask for your Seller Central password, your two-factor authentication code, or any account credential. If anyone claiming to represent Buy Box Savvy asks you for these, please contact us immediately at info@buyboxsavvy.com.

The free appraisal reviews one listing in isolation and returns five honest improvements within 24 hours. The Category Dominance Map reviews your listing inside its competitive set: three named competitors, up to twelve keywords, share-of-voice measurement, keyword-gap analysis, A+ Content comparison and a ninety-day roadmap. Different question, different depth, different deliverable.

No, and we will not claim otherwise. Amazon sales depend on product demand, price, reviews, stock availability, fulfilment, competition, account health and advertising activity. This report identifies where visibility and conversion are being lost and what to prioritise. Acting on it is what produces change, and the outcome still depends on factors outside our control.

No. Amazon ranking is determined by Amazon's own systems and by competitive activity we cannot control. We identify indexing gaps and visibility weaknesses and recommend the actions most likely to improve position. We do not promise a rank position, and we would be sceptical of anyone who does.

Your submission is stored securely and used only to prepare your report and manage your project. We do not sell or share your data with third parties for marketing. Uploaded documents are retained for twelve months and then deleted, unless you ask us to remove them sooner. Full detail is in our privacy notice.

There is no VAT to add. Buy Box Savvy is not currently VAT registered, so the £395 you see is the total payable. If our VAT status changes we will update our pricing and tell you before you pay.

Yes. Tell us about a fourth and fifth competitor, or additional ASINs, and we will quote separately. We do not add charges automatically — you will always see and approve a price before any further payment is taken.

No payment is taken when you submit the form. We review your ASINs and confirm the scope first, then send a payment request — normally the same working day and always within one working day. You can pay by card in one click, or by bank transfer if your finance process requires it. Your project begins once payment has been received.

You receive a confirmation, and we then verify that each ASIN is accessible and that the scope matches the standard project. If it does, we send your payment request. If your order needs a separate quotation — for example a second marketplace or additional competitors — we tell you the price before anything is charged.

Because we review every order before accepting it. Checking that your listings are accessible and that the scope is right takes a few minutes and means we never take payment for a project we cannot deliver properly. It adds roughly one working day to the process and removes the risk of a refund conversation entirely.
